Old Fox Farm in New Jersey’s Chester Township is much more than its name might suggest.
There’s the historic lineage. The 25 acres of equestrian property and farmland were once part of a larger estate owned by Time, Life, Fortune and Sports Illustrated founder Henry R. Luce.
The modern construction. The farm’s original house, built in 1941, was entirely renovated and expanded in 2005 by Chester architect William Byrne. The resulting residence is a modern yet traditional-looking Federal-style farmhouse complete with a wraparound porch, pitched roof and dormer windows.
The unexpected.
Classic car collectors take note. The detached four-car garage has a
hydraulic lift for storing an extra vehicle. And space for two more in
an additional garage.
The equestrian facilities. Most
of the farm is devoted to horses. The property is equipped with two
barns for a total of 20 stalls, an indoor riding ring with viewing area,
outdoor ring, 14 grass paddocks, five indoor/outdoor wash stalls, three
tack rooms and a hay barn. Also on site is a vintage Hitchings &
Company greenhouse.
The interiors. Inside
the 4,500-square-foot clapboard residence are extensive moldings and

The first-floor conservatory was designed with a closet and full bathroom and could function as a primary suite.
Other living spaces include a sunroom and a mudroom with built-in storage cubbyholes, a laundry room and a powder room.
The upstairs primary suite features another fireplace. There are a total of four bedrooms on the second and third floors.
The location. The shops and restaurants of Chester are a two-minute drive from the farm, says listing agent Robert Sameth Jr. of Turpin Realtors. Public and private schools are nearby.
“This is a property ideal for a buyer who wants the farm life: horses, chickens, goats, gardens and open land,” he says.
The opportunity. Entrepreneurs
could find a fit here. “The property can be used as an equestrian
training business,” Sameth says. With the indoor riding ring, trainers
can work in any weather.
Sameth also sees the appeal for families seeking either a homestead lifestyle or wanting to board horses.
The property at 450 Old Chester Gladstone Road is listed for $3.45 milliONS.
