Walk a labyrinth. During the Crusades in the Middle Ages, when it was too dangerous for most Christians to make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, pilgrimage cathedrals were established throughout Europe. The last stage of the pilgrimage was walking a labyrinth laid out in the tile floor of the cathedral.

This way of questing is being rediscovered in our time. Labyrinths are available in many churches and community centers; to find one near you, check a Labyrinth Locator website, such as https://labyrinthlocator.com/ or contact Veriditas [https://www.veriditas.org/], the worldwide labyrinth project headquartered at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, which is directed by Dr. Lauren Artress. Her book Walking a Sacred Path includes many comments from individuals who have been transformed by their walking meditations. Artress believes the labyrinth is a “tool to guide healing, deepen self-knowledge, and empower creativity.”
