In this work Babalawo Obanifa will document
one of the leading Ifa prayer available in Africa Ifa Spirituality against torment or punishment of the grave. Death is
an inevitable part of human existence. Whatever we do on earth ,whether will do
good or bad, we will die one day. It is believed that those who have engage
in activities ,such as killing, and other nefarious activities that
have negatively affect the life of their fellow human being have tendency of
facing severe trials before the time
they undergo judgement via soul transition in human ,animal or inanimate object base on whether they do good or bad
before they leave this world. The punishment that such soul undergoes before
such judgment is known as the torment or punishment of the grave. As a result, when a person
who has commit certain atrocious act is sick, and is about to die. If he/she is
lucky to have an honest person around who can says this prayer for him/her, he/she
will be safe from punishment of the grave. Same thing is applicable to some one
who has been convicted of certain crime and is about to face death penalty.
Saying of this prayer as an intercessory prayer will help such person to be
protected from punishment of the grave. When a person die and is about to be bury,
it is believed that saying this prayer will also protect disease from the punishment
of the grave. It is also of firmed believe that this should be part of grave
and burial prayer in Africa Spirituality. It is one of the Invocation to be recited
when placing the dead in his/her grave. It is also believe that when a dying person
can say this prayer and seek forgiveness for his /her sin he/she will be protects
and safe from the torment or punishment of the grave. Those who visit the grave of their love one’s
can also say this prayer for them. However it is instructive to note that I did
not say the prayers is now a license for you to start to commit crime and think
you will be exonerated. One of the
leading Ifa chants for this purpose is derive from Odu Ifa Irete Ogbe. It goes thus:
Ohun ti n be ninu a ko le ri
A fi Orisa, a fi Olodumare
Ni o mon ohun ti n be ni Isale Ile
Ise owo eni a ma pani
Bi a ba gboju le ara eni
Iwa tutu a si gba nila
Dia fun Orunmila
Woni ki baba rubo ko ma ri Ija Iboji
Baba gbo ebo n be o rubo
O ni asise eda po
O sipe si Olodumare
Fi asise jimi
Ko se ejo temi ni are
Omode ile ta le o gbe
Akeregbe la o gbe
Nje gbogbo aye n dawojo
Ase!!
Translation:
We can not see what is inside the mind
It only Orisa, It is Olodumare(God)
That know what is underneath the ground
The work of human hands can kill them
If ones rely on oneself
Good Character will get one’s safe
This was Ifa’s message for Orunmila
Baba was advised to offer ebo so that he will be
protected from the punishment of the grave
He heard of the ebo and complied
He said human being are full of misdeed
I pleaded to you Olodumare (God)
Forgive me of my Iniquities
Vindicate me
The children of the house ,who will you support
It is Akeregbe that we will support
All the people of the world put hand together
They advocate for me
It is who that the world love that they favor
with money
That they put hand together and favor with the
good things of life
It is only Olorun(God) that can favor you with
good thing in life
You are the one who favor Oja (the market) that
make the whole world to vindicate it
Favor me so that the world can vindicate me
Heaven should vindicate me
Ase!!
