Iyemoja: Facts About Orisa Yemoja (Must read)
YEMOJA CONSECRATED BEADS
Yemoja is known in Portuguese as :Yemanja, Lemanja, Janaina Agua.In Spanish Yemoja is known as :Yemaya, Lemanya, Lemanja, Yemalla, Llemaja, Madre del Aqua in etc. But to be sincere her real name is Yemoja or Iyemoja as that is her correct yoruba name for this Orisa. How the name change in different tradition as a result of slaves trade doesn’t affect the efficacy of invocation of this Orisa by her devotee. Yemoja real name as handle down to me by people before me. It is said that the name emanate from the word ‘yeye-omo-eja wish can be translated to English to mean mother of the fishes.
Iyemonja whish also mean mother whose children are as plenty as fishes. There are myths handle down to us from generation to generation because of lack of documentation unless one is an erudite practional of yoruba spirituality it will difficult to bring out the most authentic of these myths to focus because of the adulteration done to to this sacred myth by evil of slaves trade which have taken Africa devotee of this Orisa to foreign soil and shore. There are two most reliable myths handle down to us by our fore father on this Orisa.
They are :the myths of marriage of Orisa Yemoja with Okefe (the Orisa oko),the second is the marriage of of Yemoja to Orisa Ogun (god of iron). It is the myths Yemoja to ogun that is the most reliable. Even the marriage of Yemoja to ogun has be sub-divided into two cartigories on how Yemoja actually turn to water. The first of these cartigories is that of one her son called orangun who have incestuous relationship with Yemoja because of her astonishing beauty. The second is that of her relationship with ogun in which ogun promise not to touch Yemoja breast and that she too will not abuse ogun for his fierce look and red short eyes the promise which both of them providentialy and accidentally broken, which leads to Yemoja turning to water.this last one is the most reliable myths on Yemoja.

The second myth about the marriage of Yemoja to ogun. According to this myth as handle down. It is in two categorizes as I said earlier let examine the two one by one. The first said Yemoja was a very beautiful woman, with beautiful breast and youthful look. Yemoja was said to married to ogun. The relationship between Yemoja and ogun produce a son called Orangun. Orangun was very found of Yemoja astonishing beauty. He lust after her mother Yemoja and committed incest with her. In Yemoja attempt to rescue herself from Orangun and avoid recurring of such hugly incident again. He run away and Orangun notice of this and begin to chase her until Yemoja become very tired and unable to run again. Then Yemoja collapsed on the ground and water begin to ooze out of her body until she eventually turn to water and the water begin to turn into lakes. This category of myth claim that Olokun (god of the ocean,) Olosa (godess of the lake) oya (goddess of the wind) Orisa oko (godess of agriculture) Orisa aje (god of wealth and prosperity) and others wish space and time will not allow me to mention in this short post emerge from Yemoja after she turn to water. How the credibility of this myth too can be boast off since there is still some contradiction in it.
The second categorizes of Yemoja marriage to ogun which is the most reliable authority myth on Yemoja. The myth have little or no self contradiction at as in cases of the first two I first explain above. This myth goes thus. Yemoja was a very beautiful and powerful woman. She have one succulent big and beautiful breast. She is very successful in her trading career. So she is very rich and lovely and attractive. But despite all her charming look and financial success,Yemoja refuse to get married to any man. The main reason for Yemoja refusal to marry to any man is because she is of the opinion that her husband will be ridiculing or making fun of her if he found out that despite her astonishing beauty that one of her breast is missing.
But matter came to the peak one day when Yemoja is coming back from the market. She feel incomplete, and begin to murmur to her self that what is essence of beauty and money and all the power she has without children or husband to share them with?how will she (Yemoja) coming from market to her house every day alone without children or husband to come to? She feels the irrepressible urge to get marry. Ogun (god of iron) who was on his hurting expedition has overhear Yemoja murmuring all these things to her self. Ogun (god of iron) who is also facing similar case like Yemoja. Ogun is very fierce looking with a red eye ball. No woman want to marry ogun. Ogun see this as a golden opportunity to get married to Yemoja who is also powerful and exceedingly beautiful.

He implore Yemoja to marry him. He said to her ‘look Yemoja fear not, don’t be afraid though I look very fierce and and almost every one both male and female fear me and afraid to move close to me, but Ogun promise you (Yemoja) not to ever harm you and I will always protect you as long as you promise not to abuse and make fun of me because of my fierce look and red shot eyes. Yemoja agree to ogun proposal and make the promise requested by Ogun but on one condition that Ogun too should promise that will not touch her breast or make fun of her beautiful big large breast. The condition which ogun agree. That is how they become husband and wife. They both kept these promises for a long time. Yemoja bear many children for Ogun.
However Providence change their fate one day. Ogun be a caring and lovely man despite his fierceness want to show kindness and surprise for Yemoja. Ogun came home one afternoon when Yemoja was sleeping. Ogun enter the kitchen to cook food and soup to surprise Yemoja when Yemoja wake up. But ogun has never cook in kitchen before he only goes to war, he is a master in art of war not cooking. As a result of ogun inexperience in cooking he begins to handle all the utensils that Yemoja do use to cook the way he handle sword in battle field. As a result ogun accidentally destroy most of all the utensils in the kitchen including Yemoja special cooking pot. The pot fall down and smash to pieces. It is the sound of this broken pot that wake Yemoja up. When Yemoja woke up and enter the kitchen and saw the havoc that ogun have wreck on the kitchen including her special pot.
Yemoja become uncontrollably angry she shout at the top of her voice that ‘what is this you have done to my kitchen and my pot you this blood shot eyes’. Ogun felt terribly down and embarrassed, and in his attempt to explain the whole situation to Yemoja and appease her,, he mistakenly touch Yemoja breast. Yemoja become to tremble and collapsed on the spot. In a twinkle of eye Yemoja has become water and disappeared. Ogun was very sad and depressed. He has no option that to go back to continue to leave his formal way of highly restless warrior life.

Yemoja image of worship is usually carved out of a precious wood. It is usually consecrated with a spiritual load on it head. This load depends on the power and purpose the Yemoja elements is needed for. The main clothe of Yemoja is white. Although she use favorite colors. Yemoja can be appease with one or more of the following items :pepeye(duck) igbin (snail), obe egunsi ati igba (melon stew with garden egg) obi ifin oloju merin(white kolanut with four lobes) obi pupa oloju merin(red kolanut with four lobes). This is just short facts of Yemoja as Orisa.

risha osanyin (Facts about orisha osanyin)
Facts
about orisha Osanyin. Babalawo Obanifa will in this article explains the
method of getting true osanyin and reason why is difficult to get genuine
osanyin in modern day . osanyin which many people has corrupt his name to
Ossain, some people called him Ozain, some called him Ossain and some called
him Ossaim. But the original genuine is Osanyin. I have always say this that
the slave trade that makes people lost contact with their roots is what usually
account for distortion of names and history and facts about the Orisha. The
questions now is who is Osanyin.
Who Is Osanyin?
Osanyin is an orisha or deity of herbal knowledge. He is the spirit behind the preparation of Medicine from leaves and herbs. During his life time osanyin is a younger brother to orunmila. The age difference between osanyin and orunmila is so wide that orunmila is old enough to be osanyin grandfather. Orunmila's mother give birth to osanyin at a very old age. Osanyin usually run errands for orunmila. Orunmila will send him where ever he want. But Osanyin is a great botanist he knows the names of leaves and their uses. He is naturally gifted from OLODUMARE with knowledge of herbs and their uses for health and other metaphysical purpose. He didn't learn how to use herb from any body other orisha learn the uses of herbs from him. Osanyin knowledge come to prominence when, when ever orunmila send him on errands when osanyin was still a small boy,he will come back home crying that he can't cut the leaves and tree in the farm because of their uses. Orunmila begin to let osanyin help him in preparation of Medicine while orunmila continue with his divination work. Osanyin was a very handsome man strong and virile couple with his great knowledge. Osanyin become very proud and arrogant. Many diviner do come to him because of his knowledge and they respect him because he is Orunmila younger brother and orunmila was a great diviner. So one day a diviner call majuyagbe come to osanyin because of osanyin herbal knowledge to learn little from osanyin to cure certain disease, but osanyin refuse to teach majuyagbe any thing. He even arrogantly molest and abuse him. This diviner leave osanyin house very sad. And he feel very dejected and was crying on his way home. Majuyagbe come across Esu odara. Esu told him that what happened to you my friend, you always give me food, I can't see you in this sad mood and leave you to it. He answer it is Osanyin who molest me. I went to him for herbal knowledge but he decline arrogantly. Esu said no problems I will teach osanyin a great lesson at least I am in this world before him. Esu through his own ase ase (power of do as I say.) make a great wind with the help of Ajija (spirit of whirlwind) to attack Osanyin house, the house was destroyed into rubble. And osanyin was still inside. Osanyin lose his one leg, and one arm and one eye during the attack. Osanyin is yet to recover from his seek bed when a great War strike the town and Osanyin was taking ad slave. This is how osanyin went into captivity of slavery. This is what gives rise to how osanyin become orunmila slave.
OSANYIN BECOME A SLAVE TO ORUNMILA HOW IT HAPPENED. www.babalawoobanifa.com

Where is the plant you now want me to clear.
Orunmila buy osanyin as slave unknown to him. Osanyin has become disabled with no leg or harm and he has become very humble man although all his knowledge did not leave him. Osanyin was working as slave in orunmila farm. But he didn't touch any plant. He makes just three ridges. Out of this three ridges he will metaphysically bring yam, vegetables and all other farm produce that orunmila household want. This marvel the wives of orunmila. When they get home. They will say all the miracle osanyin was performing in the farm to orunmila. Orunmila will be marvel who is this disable slave that don't touch plant and bushes but bring forth all farm produce from just three ridges only. Orunmila said I will visit the farm and see this slave myself. When orunmila get there. He as osanyin why it you don't touch bushes, and how did you come by this power? Osanyin answer I can't not touch them because all this things you called bushes have metaphysical and medicinal value.orumila can't easily recognized osanyin as his brother because osanyin as loss his original voice. His voice now is sounding as if one is whistle. Orunmila after many interrogation and divination realise osanyin as his long loss brother. Orunmila redeem osanyin from slavery. Osanyin become practicing knowledge of herbs with humility. Osanyin become stronger than he was even when he has two legs and arms. So osanyin change his mode of feeding as he feed more on alligator pepper and gin, eggs and honey.
WHAT ARE THE SYMBOL OF OSANYIN?
The original symbol of osanyin is a wooden or iron carve image with one leg. Osanyin usually stand on one legs. Although there has been distortion of history when some people hold the believe that osanyin is of various types that is from one leg to sixteen leg. This is wrong with due humility. Osanyin status must have one leg.
HOW DO I GET ORIGINAL OSANYIN, AND WHY IS IT DIFFICULT TO GET ORIGINAL OSANYIN IN MODERN DAY YORUBA LAND AND WHOLE WORLD AT LARGE……?
babalawo Obanifa will give adequate truth here. Truth is better. The ingredients for consecration of osanyin ranging from various leaves like ewe ogbo, ewe esinsin, ewe ina, pupa, imi osumare, and one items that for the sake of public morality I will not mention. When all this thing are put together. It will be use to wash the carve status that represent osanyin. Remember if you use this item to wash even a table or chair even a bowl it will give same results and begin to whistle when you start to clap your hand or shake a gourd call sere. But what make it difficult to get original osanyin this day is that most items use are no longer available. And even who knows the technical know of original osanyin doesn't reveal it to people for moral reason, because to get original osanyin do have negative impact on the wife on children of the possessor. He can give birth to blind person or one of his children may be imbecile or disable. And any house where original osanyin is placed must collapsed when the owner of the osanyin die. That is while our forefathers that have the original one usually place osanyin at backyard.
IS TRUE THAT THERE ARE MANY FAKE OSANYIN TODAY.?
In the whole world hardly can you find 21 original talking osanyin, yet we have thousands of people who claim they have osanyin and they are practicing. What these set of people do is sheer of ventriloquism. The will put something like whistle in side their mouth and face unconscrated effigy or statue. The will be whistling and they will be interpretating what they previously whistle, this is a fraud. This is not osanyin. If you look at this set of people well there are stomach will be shaking. All through their mouth is opening. This is ventriloquism not osanyin and that is what thousands of people who claim they have osanyin do today. So truly there are many ventriloquist who claims the have osanyin today.
IS IT TRUE THAT OSANYIN IS THE FIRST PERSON TO USE LEAVES FOR MEDICINE?
this question is controversial in actual reality. But the truth is that osanyin is the first person to have full knowledge of the names and uses of leaves and leaves and herbs without any body teaching him any thing. That is why homage is been paid to him when ever a diviner or native doctor want to collect herbs in the forest he will need to pay homage to osanyin for the purposes of effectiveness of herb.
This is done by eating eyo atare meje (seven alligator pepper. And the following incantations will then be say.

risha osanyin (Facts about orisha osanyin)
Facts
about orisha Osanyin.

Orisa Aganju (original facts about orisa Aganju)
Orisa
Aganju (original facts about orisa Aganju
Babalawo Obanifa is
writing this article to give full details on orisa Aganju some people
call this orisha Agayu or Aganyu.,but his original uncorrupted name is Aganju.
(the creator of civilization, the defender of the helpless and the
oppressed
J). What really prompt
this article is to correct the wrong widely held and accepted opinion and
hearsay from history that people who practice orisha in diaspora in form of
santeria and lukumi and candombe have about this orisha. The distort historical
facts about this orisha is a result of negative impact of slaves trade on our
people over the years, the name and some historical facts this orisha has been
distorted. Many people from the aforementioned method of orisha practice have
always have the view that orisha Aganju is a father of sango, some of them say
orisha Aganju is a brother of sango, some are not even certain whether orisa
Aganju is a father of sango or he is a brother of sango. But the real historical
truth is that orisha Aganju is a cousin of sango. I will explain the details
now. Orisha Aganju is the third sitting king of Oyo empire. He reign after his
father Ajaka. Let me dig history down. Oranmiyan is the last son of
oduduwa. Oranmiyan is the first king of Oyo empire. He gives birth to several
children notable among them are Ajaka who is a brother to Sango. After the
demise of Oranmiyan Ajaka the elder brother of Sango become the second king of
Oyo empire, but Ajaka was a very timid man with less valour for war. This make
many towns try to encroach on Oyo empire. This is what lead to the his
removal from kingship. His younger brother Sango who was very brave, he do emit
fire and smoke, and have power to bring forth thunder was then made the king.
Sango fights many war and win. But in one of his habits to test his fire
emitting power, he went to mountain where fire evolve and burnt down his Palace
and destroy his property and family and some of his wife include citizens, I
can not explain full details of this event here because I am not discussing
sango in this article. This lead to end of sango reign. This what bring back
Ajaka his elder brother who was removed from the throne previously and has been
in political asssylum in a town called igboho through out the sango kingship
back to the throne. By this Time when Ajaka come back he was very brave and
resolute king. It is Ajaka that gives birth to Aganju. After the demise of
Ajaka. Aganju become the third sitting king of Oyo empire. He was a very brave
king. He is a lover of nature and animal. He loves beauty. He likes wild
animals. He tame wide animals in his Palace. History have it as I learn from
people before us that Aganju domestic a Leopard and keep it in his Palace . He
hate oppression, he likes to visit the wilderness and rivers. He is very
powerful than his father. He normally walk to any where with his double edge
sword. He loves beads majorly with color red, yellow, light blue, dark blue,
green, deep brown,, milky white,. he share some similarities with sango. But..
The is orisha that is good for people doing beauty or aesthetic business. Music
and acting films. Those who face oppression of any sort can also invoke the
spirit of this orisha. he is a cousin to sango. After he demise he turn to
orisha. That when people invoke him he answer. His main symbol is.
A sword, and double edge axe wish represent justice against oppression. Ose sango. He do take all ingredients use to sacrifice to sango. His method of initiation may differ from tradition to tradition as results of slaves trade which erode some of original practicing skills.

Justice will not be
done in this article without cross checking the view of people who regards
orisha Aganju as orisha of vocalnoes. Because here in yoruba land we don't
refer to Aganju as orisha of vocalnoes. The reason while in Brazil they
consider orisha Aganju as as a volcano orisha is only traceable to the locality
our fore father that were stolen as a slave from here find there self. And role
this orisha play in savings them. In yoruba land we don't experience vocalnoes
at all. The lucumi, the santeria and candombe has always associate
orisha Aganju with Sango the god of thunder. Aganju is a cousin to Sango.
Aganju is not a father of sango it is the deification of King Aganju after his
death that turn him to orisha. Neither a brother but a cousins. The
orisha devotee must note this fact. This article is an humble work from
babalawo Obanifa. It is not mean to show superiority of knowledge but to let
people know the truth and practice with perfect orisha knowledge. Let learn and

Sango - The god of fire and thunder.
Sango
- The god of fire and thunder.
In this article, I
will revise my previous information I wrote on sango in year 2015. This
arise due to myriad of email I received from people who demand is sango same
deity as Oranfe, because In my previous work I start the oriki sango (praises)
as Oranfe onile ina(Oranfe the store house of fire) ?.In this current article,
I will examine who is Oranfe? Who is sango, is there any nexus between the
two?the true life story of sango not the myths. How sango become orisa. The
oriki of sango (praise of sango) as well as items that can be use to feed and
invoke orisa sango will be explained. Every aforementioned thing will be
explained in detail.
I will start with Oranfe, Oranfe is the first diety to use fire and emit fire before the coming of sango. Oranfe is not born of human beings, he descended along with other irumonle from
heaven to Ile Ife in ancient times, he is the original owner of fire, all other dieties like sango that use fire afterward took after him . Sango is born of woman, the name of mother of sango is Torosi a Tapa princes who get married to oranmiyan. Orisa sango is not the first person to answer the name sango. There is a deity before sango who answer that name among the irumonle before the coming of sango in oyo. Sango is a human being like Us who later become orisa due to his posthumous deification. He is a man of extra ordinary qualities. In odu ifa owonrin iwori if make it clear that there is one sango who come before the sango who is alafin of oyo. Odu Ifa (Owonrin Wori) clearly state that any reference to Sango in the Kingdom of Oyo is due to the King of Oyo naming his two sons, Ajaka, and the other Sango, because of the latter’s character and powers similar to that of the ancient orisa Sango. There is a difference between humans who were given title as an orisa because of their feats during life, and the irunmole.sango of Oyo became orisa after his posthumous deification. But today is sango of oyo that is worship as sango deity today. This will lead to ask who is orisha sango?
The answer is not far fetch.Sango (known as shango, Changó or Xangô in Latin America; and also known as Jakuta) is an Orisha of fire and thunder. He is syncretized with Saint Barbara or saint Jerome in Santeria of South America.Sango is historically a royal ancestor of the Yoruba as he was the third Alafin (king: owner of the palace) of the Oyo Kingdom, born Arabambi(and according to some sources he was also known as "Olufiran"to Oranmiyan, founder of Oyo and Tapa (Nupe) Princess Torosi. But it is instructive to note that correct spelling and pronunciation of this god of fire is Sango, the original uncorrupted Yoruba name of this orisa.
Although in some quarter, Some would rather say he was the second Alaafin after his elder brother Ajaka was dethroned, due to the fact that Oranmiyan never officially assumed the title of "Alaafin" before going back to Ile - Ife.
Sango married at least three wives known as Oba, Osun and Oya. Oba was his first wife who controlled his household as the Iyale(first wife) . Osun his second, a woman of immense beauty, Sango had used his dancing to attract her, and Oya his last wife , was his companion at battle, although he didn't pay her bride price..she had just run away from her cruel husband to Sango's arms. Why this might seem against everything acceptable under the tradition, it is believed that both Sango and Oya were destined to be together as Ifa had revealed through Orere, the greatest Babalawo of that time.
CONCEPTION AND EARLY LIFE OF SANGO
Torosi, the mother of sango was given by her father known as Elempe to Oranmiyan as a result of the treaty between them. At this time, Oyo-ile was at war with the Bariba of Borgu who wanted to subjugate the new City still under construction. Orangun Ajagunla of Ila, Oranmiyan's elder brother stormed in with his men to assist. Not long after the war was won, Oranmiyan welcomed a son Ajuwon Ajaka, much later Arabambi was born by the woman he received from Elempe Tapa, so the original name of sango at birth is Arabambi. It is believed that the name "Sango" was given by his maternal grandfather or He adopted it from the local name for the god of Thunder in Ile Tapa, as odu ifa owonrin iwori clearly point out earlier, the real diety know as sango predate the Oyo king who later become orisa due to his posthumous deification. , Either way the royal family was devoted to The Spirit of Thunder .Torosi mother of sango was from this dynasty or lineage.
At a young age Arabambi played with Leopard cubs, and developed a wooden axe he carried around everywhere.
At a time he left the palace with his mother and stayed in a place later known as Koso. He became an entertainer, dancing with Masquerades. He even had his own personal drum(Bata) and drummer, he wouldn't dance to the beat of other drummers, everywhere Sango went his drummer followed him even to a fight. One day Arabambi was teased by the spectators for giving his usual tricks having nothing new to show, he decided to go to his mother's people in Tapa lempe , they gave him ingredients to make fire out of his breath.
HOW SANGO BECOME THE KING (ALAFIN SANGO)
After Oranmiyan left Oyo to the hands of his son Ajaka and the Oyomesi things became bad for the people, Owu had developed into a fine kingdom with the best military around and they sought to conquer Oyo. One day Ajaka was captured by the Owu soldiers , the Oyo generals were confused and a tug of war began between them , to prevent a state of Anarchy the Oyomesi invited Arabambi. Immediately he took charge he set all the generals to thier place, joined the army himself and led the rescue mission to Owu, he brought Ajaka back but the Oyomesi dethroned Ajaka, they said he is timid and they made Sango the new Alaafin.
As Alafin he was unlike his brother who was weak and let his generals roam without order, Sango placed each of them in strategic locations to keep the Owu in check , he also made successful campaigns to liberate some villages from Owu.Everyone feared Sango, his wives and even the Oyomesi feared him seeking more power he went to the Babalawo for way to make his enemies perish instantly, a charm was prepared with a fine stone that with it Sango could conjure lightening and thunder, this charm known as "Edun ara" is made out of electric stone, the power of generating thunder Come from babalawo through odu ifa oturupon irosun made it clear. This power is still made today is still made today by either babalawo or sango devotee who has the knowledge. It is called sango pipe(invoking of thunder spirit).
This Arira(thunder power) go in long way to assist sango, to the extent that Sango had become possessed by the spirit of lightening and thunder (Arira).sango is a man of astonishing achievements, he is a fighter, Head of the Sango cult, King, dancer, military strategist, he was a Legend, he is the best at everything he did, he made everything he laid his hands on to prosper.
THE DOWN FALL OF SANGO AND HIS POSTHUMOUS DEIFICATION
Oral historical account relay down from generation to generation make it clear that, during the late reign(7th year) of Sango, he had two generals: Timi Agbale Olofa-ina who could shoot arrows of fire and Gbonka who was equally powerful. After disobeying his direct order not to match on Owu in Battle, Sango follows Oya’s advice to get rid of them and sent them to govern the border towns of the Empire.Timi obeyed him and left for Ede but Gbonka stayed back in Oyo to pose further treat. Sango in his quest to destroy them both: sent Gbonka to Ede to capture Timi which he did. Sango who believed that the match in Ede was staged asked for a re-match in Oyo and Gbonka defeated Timi. Sango then ordered that Gbonka should be burnt to ashes. Mysteriously, he appeared after three days giving Sango 7 days ultimatum to vacate the throne for his infidelity.Sango angrily requested for his Edun-Ara from Oya, He found it wet and stained with blood from her period losing his potentecy to invoke thunder.
He thereafter left the palace to a high rock facing the palace to re-affirm the potency of his thundered bolt. The thunder he created stroke the palace and burnt it down. Oba and Osun; after losing everything to the inferno, left the palace angrily blaming one another for allowing Oya such access to Sango and fearing for their lives, returned to their home land Osun went back to Igede Ekiti (Igede Ekiti is the home of osun) and Oba to Igbon where they were immortalised into Rivers by their people, Oya on her part after hearing of Sango's death went back to the forest in Nupeland where Sango found her and possibly drowned in the Niger river later named after her . but some myth claim she didn't drown, but that she actually turn to the river.
After the disaster which extended to large parts of the city caused by Sango, some groups began a riot, cursing Sango and demanding his removal. He was extremely heartbroken he left the City followed by the chiefs and members of his royal cult known as Baba-Mogba persuading him not to leave. After an unyielding persuasion, the chiefs went back as they approach an Ayan tree in the place called koso with the news that the king has hanged. Factually this is the spot where he is a said to have hang himself. But another story told by only a few of the Baba-Mogba who did not go back: is that Sango was attacked by Gbonka but Sango unwilling to fight varnished into thin air only to appear in the sky to destroy Gbonka and those peddling the rumors that he hanged are lier . But the rumors that he eventually hanging himself despite his spiritual power by some citizen pervade the air. To the extent that most of his followers are ashame to show their face in public. So the Babamogba and some devotee gather their self together and went back to Tapa the town of mother of sango. Where they get some of the charm and secret that sango do use to invoke thunder strike. So if any body ridicule them by telling them their leader, their king sango has hang. The devotee will then invoke the thunder to strike the household of such fellow.and subsequently they will tell the public that it is because such fellow said Oba pokunso (the king hanged himself) that is why sango have strike him. Consistent repetition of this process make people begin to fear for their life and begin to aver Oba koso (that is the king did not hang) this is what actually lead to the posthumous deification of sango as orisa up till today.
Sango during his life time abhor lier, theives and the timid. He abhor any kind of infidelity that is why after his posthumous deification babalawo or sango devotee can still invoke him to arrest and killing theives hence here in yoruba land we revern orisa sango as alapadupe. (that is one who received gratitude after his killing). that is why people are usually afraid to make false oath on sango name.

Ooni of Ife as a living Orisa
Ooni
of Ife as a living Orisa
Babalawo Obanifa will
in this work explain what the actual meanings of royal title of Ooni of Ife and
how the holder of the title is deify as a living Orisa. The word orisa emanate
from two yoruba words ori sisa, ori (head) sisa (choses or selection). It human
being that becomes orisa. The selected head that are chosen and deify as a
result of extra ordinary feet of achievement and sterling quality for purposes
of serving as intermediary between human being and OLODUMARE (God) are regarded
as orisa. Most orisa usually evolve as a result of posthumous deification of
them. Orisa is different from irumonle, irumonle are not human, they are not
born of women they descend from ikole Orun (heaven) the orisa are human being that
are deify, they didn't decescend. For example obatala is an irumonle not orisa,
while sango is orisa. Their mode of coming to the word is different obatala is
not born of a Woman that makes him irumonle, sango was born of a woman that
makes him orisa not irumonle. Having know the difference between the two. Let
me quickly proceed to my object of discussion today. Which is Ooni as a living
Orisa. The Ooni use as royal title for King of Ile Ife today (ife is the
ancestral home of yoruba race, culture and spirituality) is the name of the
orisa that oduduwa who is the first king of Ife believe in and worship. He
exist in:
humans form on form of orisa preist. Then there are 201 orisa in ife. All of them have undergo posthumous deification after their demise. The only one out of them who is alive is Ooni, because the spirit of this orisa called Ooni is believed to transfer from one king to the succesor of the throne. The Ooni is the only orisa that never died but instead reside in the body of every succeeding king to the throne. He remained as the custodian of all the remaining 200 orisa in ife who has undergo posthumous deification after their demise. It is Oduduwa himself who make Ooni the custodian of all other orisa in ife. When Ife become exceedingly developed and all oduduwa ward have go on their own Ventures. People ask oduduwa who will be their leader. Oduduwa said it me but Ooni will be acting in my stead but he will be holding the royal title of Ife for life. Hence he called Arole Odua (one who act I am the stead of oduduwa). Since then any succeeding king in Ile Ife has been regarded as Ooni - Orisa.

ORISA OKO (FACTS ABOUT ORISHA OKO)
In this article
babalawo Obanifa will be explaining in full spiritual facts about orisa
Oko and how individual or Orisa devotee can use it for the betterment of their
spiritual, social and economic well being. Orisa Oko is deity or god of
Agriculture, any kind of farming, and fertility.orisa oko is also one of the
diety in charge of hunting. Orisa Oko name has been corrupt by many tradition
to names like : Oko, the Latin America and Santeria practionals know this
orisha as Oco, orisha okko, Oko, this orisa Oko has been syncretized with saint
Isidore in some tradition . With due respect the correct name of this orisa is
Orisa Oko the yoruba name for him. The meaning of the name simply mean 'The god
of the farm' that is the god of farm produce. So it is instructive to state
clearly here that the widely circulated believe among some santeria practionals
and people in diaspora that the meaning of Orisa Oko mean 'god of the penis' is

pass to future generations.

ORISA OSUMARE (RAINBOW ) by Babalawo Obanifa
ORISA
OSUMARE (RAINBOW)
Many of of the modern babalawo have neglected the use of orisha osumare(rainbow
)
because this orisha is not listed as part of orisha under adimu during divination process
. this orisha is very important orisha, but
I must confess to you the babalawo who have indepth knowledge of osumare are very few. Even most prominent babalawo know little about osumare as an orisa.
.in this post I will explain to you who is osumare as orisha. His or her function, what to sacrifice to osumare, his or her day of worship, and his or her taboo
.
Who is osumare? Osumare is the son of oloja (a king )the king was very rich and powerful. Osumare is married to olofin (a name of a king )during her life time this account for her name as osumare ego aya olofin (osumare the wise one the wife of olofin ).also osumare omo oloja, Eni to ni oja pupa (osumare the daughter of a king, the owner of red belt ). Osumare is called different name in different tradition but as I always say the real name of any orisha is yoruba spirituality is the yoruba name of that orisha,I think this position is sacred for purpose of efficacy of using this orisha. Yoruba call it osumare, in some part of yoruba to be specific the Ekiti state part of western Nigeria where I hail from we call it Aadi, the Yewe people of Cuba called it ochumare, the Bahia and fon people of Dahomy called it Ayido, the people of Haitian tradition call it Dambola Ayido. But to be sincere with you the real name is osumare. However difference in name never affect the efficacy any way.
The next unclear issue is whether osumare is a male or female orisha. Some people do claim osumare is male and other claim she is a female, and other tradition believe that osumare have male and female trait. I will clear this doubt. From the knowledge I have from my father late awo Pele olofindipe (of the blessed memory ).he let me know that osumare is a female orisha. He told me that osumare ego aya olofin nise (osumare ego is the wife of olofin ). Osumare during her life time is essentially an herbalist and a diviner. She get to certain stage that she is male from waist to his head and female from waist to the leg. So may be this is the reason why some people in some tradition think osumare is both male and female orisha. At some stage in her life she she spent half of the year as a ere (a snake called Boa constrictor ) and the remaining half of the year as osumare (rainbow ).
Osumare rainbow is an of wealth and prosperity. Osumare took part in creation story. Olodumare make him or her to drink excess water from see. Osumare still perform the function up till today he drink excess water from sea ,river and any big water outlet to prevent the world from flood, as I told you in my dialect in Ekiti state part of yoruba land, another name for osumare is Aadi, so if any body is drinking excess water Ekiti people will say on n mu omi bi Aadi (that's the person is drinking water like rainbow ).osumare Is an orisha of color . it is believed osumare own almost all the colours, and that it's osumare that give colours to all things.
Although I heard from someone that osumare is a god of all elongated things. Of course I don't dispute that too . but one important thing we must not forget is the link between osumare (rainbow )and ere (Boa constrictor snake )osumare has given this snake the power of her excretory system. Because when osumare is still alive her excreter or feaces is enough charm and magic to do anything. She gave this power of her excretory system to aa snake call boa constrictor. When ever this snake place this excretory system on the ground in other to drink water from river osumare (rainbow )will appear in the sky. Although as a practicing babalawo if we need this excretory system we can make a special ipese (ritual ) with ekuru (boiled beans )to allow the snake to eat and release this excretory system, but I must be honest with you the ingredients to prepare this is a bit scarce to get in modern day. But we can get them if we really want to. This osumare excretory system is redish in colour, if you just get it new it can illuminate a dark room as if you put electric bulb, but the more it stay at home the more it become weak.
The odu ifa that talk about osumare is ogbeyeku it stated thus
Tepe tepe ni pepeye n tele
A difa fun osumare ego
Omo oloja
Oloja pupa
Omo aji je pepeye
Translation
The duck step on soil in the hope to live long

Osumare Rainbow is one of the orisha that is very expensive to get. Because it image is usually carve in gold in form of two boa constrictor male and female facing each other. Then come leaves and other ingredients. I will not mention those leaves here .that remain with me.
Ingredients use in appeasing osumare are :oyin igan (wild honey )adodo (beautiful flowers )atike funfun (white powder )turari (perfume )pepeye (duck )it is preferably to appease osumare on Sunday.

SU ONILE ORITA THE DIVINITY OF THE CROSS ROAD(esu is not a
satan) by Babalawo Obanifa
ESU IS
A DIVINITY OF THE CROSS ROAD (ESU ONILE
ORITA)ESU IS NOT A SATAN.
Esu in Yoruba ifa religion is a god of cross road (Esu onile orita)Esu is called different names in different tradition but his real name is Esu. In some places Esu is known as ELLEGU or LEGBA. In Yoruba ifa spirituality, it is believed that Esu have over 200 names, and all this name are derive from his activities or deeds or sometime from the songs use to praise him for his positive and negative activities. Some of the examples of this name are :Esu lalu (Esu the wealth and honour of the city )Ogiri oko (the person who is hard as rock ),Akeregbaye (the person who is small but in control of the universe )Elegbara (the mighty and powerful one)Lagemon orun (the sacred child of heaven )Esu odara (one who can do and undo )Alakalu (the whose greatness manifest all over the town )onibode (gate keeper )papawara (the supersonic )this is little out of names use to eulogise Esu.
Esu is the right hand divinity of orunmila ,and he usually see to the completion of orunmila desires. He takes ebo (sacrifice as his dividend or gain ) for carrying out orunmila desire. Esu is bearer of sacrifices to ikole orun (the realm of the ancestors ).He is the enforcer of the wills of Olodumare (God ) to other divinities and and human beings. It is the babalawo that understand Esu better through Ifa divination reading. Esu as an enforcer of the will of Olodumare Esu usually bring good or bad to people depending on the frequency they maintain with the wills of Olodumare. This may account for the reason why some people who have
shallow knowledge of this deity misconstrued him as devil or lucifer of other religions tradition which is quite different from our own ifa religion.
Odu ifa make it clear the earlier home of Esu hence they praise him as oba Nile ketu (the king in town of ketu )Esu image or symbol can be carved with wood, a piece of rock a clay will also do. But the most effective statute of esu is usually made from yangi take from the stream or rivers. The statute we be washed with some ifa leaves before use, I will not mentioned those leaves here.
Esu is the orisha of the crossroads (esu onile orita ).orita mean a T-junction where road where road is divided into two or three and one need to choose or decide which route to take. So Esu as aa divinity of cross road symbolize the point of making decisions or choices. So the original seat of Esu is not orita (crossroads ) as meaning as mistakenly think, but the original seat of Esu is the heart or mind of human beings where he or she takes decision whether good or bad .
