The comprehensive definition of what a kidney is as be given by Web Med thus ‘The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs on either side of your spine, below your ribs and behind your belly. Each kidney is about 4 or 5 inches long, roughly the size of a large fist.
The kidneys' job is to filter your blood.
They remove wastes, control the body's fluid balance, and keep the right levels
of electrolytes.
All of the blood in your body passes through them several times a day.
Blood
comes into the kidney, waste gets removed, and salt, water,
and minerals
are adjusted, if needed. The filtered blood goes back into the body. Waste gets
turned into urine,
which collects in the kidney's pelvis -- a funnel-shaped structure that
drains down a tube called the ureter to the bladder.
Each kidney
has around a million tiny filters called nephrons. You could have only 10% of
your kidneys working, and you may not notice any symptoms or problems.
If blood stops flowing into a kidney, part or all of it
could die. That can lead to kidney failure.’
Another medical author : Benjamin Wedro, MD, FACEP, FAAEM in
his work title, kidney failure( symtoms, signs, stages, causes, and treatment)
define kidney thus; Kidneys are the organs that filter waste products from the blood. They are
also involved in regulating blood pressure, electrolyte
balance, and red blood cell production in the body.
Having known what a kidney is, we
will go straight to how water and fruit can serve as natural remedy for kidney
disorder. According to prof. lekan Oyedeji,

work , he make the following observation on kidney disorder;

B.
KIDNEY FUNCTIONS
v

I.
DEHHYDRATION – insufficient water intake
II.
Wrong diet: acid – forming foods like white
flour products, cassava products, sugar cane products, meat, tea, coffee,
artificial spices, condiments
III.
OVER EATING and excess rich foods
The LIVER is to remove poisons from the absorbed food, if
the LIVER is overloaded and congested, it cannot take care of all that is sent
to it; it will then pass the excess to the kidneys where the WASTES may cause
INFLAMMATION, STONES and GRAVEL; if the KIDNEYS are overloaded, they pass the
excess to the BLADDER, resulting in the INFLAMMATION of the BLADDER or other
BLADDER DISORDERS. These may also
result in ULCERS or TUMORS.
D. SYMPTOMS OF KIDNEY DISORDERS
Ø
The kidney Disorders usually start with traces
of ALBUMIN in the URINE
Ø
The URINE gradually becomes CLOUDY and SCANTY.
Pain develops in the back of the LOWER SPINE
Ø
There may be BLOODY SEDIMENTS in the URINE, with
sharp shooting pains around the back of the BLADDER
Ø
Irritation substances in the URINE which inflame
the lining of the BLADDER or URETHRA [the passage leading out of the body
Ø
The walls of the BLADDER collapse with no URINE
to hold them apart; one side then rubs against the other, producing shooting
pain in the BLADDER.
