medicinal usage. This work will give the names of this herbs as well as the medicinal properties contain
in these herbs and how this herbs can be use or
prepare to take care of various common ailments. Let us look into these
plants together and their medicinal benefits.
IGI ORUWO (BRIMSTONE THREE WITH
SCIENTIFIC NAME MORINDA LUCINDA)
It is believed that this tree has the ability
to cure Malaria, Fever, Jaundice and Diabetes, but this tree is usually
used to treat fever locally. Scientifically
proven it is believe that this tree contain; Anthraquiones, Glycosides.
Herbal Or Medicinal Uses
Fever:
The common ailment that Oruwo is normally use to cure is fever. To cure fever with Oruwo . You can peel the stem bark of this tree or it roots,
boil it in water for thirty minute. A person with fever will be taking it
one full glass two times a day.
Another method is that, the fresh leaves from
the Oruwo tree can be collected
fresh, the person suffering from fever will use ordinary clean potable water, or Emu (palm wine) or Seven- up drinks
to soak it ,to obtain it fresh juice. The person suffering from fever or
malaria will be drinking one full glass of it, two times a day.
Jaundice:
This herbs is also commonly use in treating Jaundice. Example of it preparation
for this purpose; obtain the fresh bark of the root of Oruwo tree, add a lot of Orogbo( bitter kola ), grind the two together
and allow it to be dry by hair not sun.
The person suffering from Jaundice should be taking two spoon of the preparations with a
glass of lime orange juice, two times a
day.
Another method in wish
this plant can be used for Jaundice is to
get the fresh leaves and root of Oruwo tree , gets also
the fresh leave of Ibepe ( pawpaw with scientific name Carica
papaya), epo osan gayin ( lemon peels). Boil them together in clean pot with
water. Jaundice patient should be drinking it one glass cup daily.
Diabetes : The fresh leaves of this Oruwo tree
and ewe ewuro tutu( fresh bitter leaves with scientific name Verlonia
amygdalina), if squeeze together with clean water diabetes patient
should be taking it one glass cup per day.
IGI AWUN TABI AHUN (STOOLWOOD WITH
SCIENTIFIC NAME ALSTINIA BOONEI)
Ahun is also one of the most commonly used Yoruba
herbs that is normally used to cure common ailment like Fever, Convulsion, Arthritis, Diabetes, etc. It contains the medicinal properties known as Alkaloids, tannins,
saponin, Echitamine, Tannis.
HERBAL AND MEDICINAL USES
Fever: Like Igi Oruwo, Igi Ahun is
one of the leading common herbs use in Yoruba herbal medicine to cure fever. The fresh bark stem
of Ahun tree can be chop into pieces and boil in pot with clean water. The decoction
should be drink one glass, two times a day.
The fresh bark stem of Ahun can also be chop
into pieces and be soak in palm wine or seven -up drink. Let it settle for a
day and begin to drink it, one glass cup a day.
This preparation also helps in remedy Arthritis,
Convulsion and Diabetes
IGI MANGO ( MANGO TREE WITH SCIENTIFIC
NAME MAGNIFERA INDICA)
Mangoes tree is also one of the common herbs use in Yoruba
herbal medicine, to cure simple ailment like; Malaria Fever, Bronchitis, Diabetes, etc.
scientifically it contains medicinal properties known as Flavonoids,
Resin,Glycoside, Tannis.
Herbal or
medicinal uses
Malaria fever: The fresh leaves and stem of mangoes, leaves and stem bark of cashew plant, fresh
leaves of pawpaw plant, and bitter leaves plant. Boil the leaves together with clean water, an person with malaria fever will be taking
it one full glass, two times a day’
Diabetes: Ododo mango ( tender leaves ) of mangoes it is believe that the tender leaves of mangoes if boil with clean water
can help diabetes patient, if they drink it one
glass three times a day.
Bronchitis: The
fresh leaves of mango, if boil with clean water and drink one glass of it ,two times a day will cure
bronchitis.
Anaemia: The
fresh stem bark of mango tree should be boil with clean water, drinking it one
glass a day will help cure Anemia
IGI EEPIN TABI EPINPIN (SAND PAPER
TREE WITH SCIENTIFIC NAME FISCUS
ASPERIFOLIA)
Epinpin( sand paper tree) is one of the common leaves that is
used in Yoruba herbal medicine to cure various ailments, it is instructive that
sand paper tree herbal preparations is not good for lactating and pregnant
women. But others are good to go. Sand
paper tree are commonly use to cure urinary tract infections, hypertension, gonorrhea
etc. it major medicinal properties is Tannis
Herbal or
medicinal uses
Urinary tract
infections: The fresh root and bark stem of epinpin tree should be obtain
, it should be cut into small pieces and place in the water. And boil. Person
with urinary tract infection will be drinking, one full glass of this decoction
two to three times a day for fourteen
day.
Hypertension: The
fresh leaves of sand paper tree with bitter leaves should be squeeze together
with clean water,
an hypertensive patient should be taking it one glasse cup
three times a day until the desire result is obtain.
Alternatively the leaves can be dry to tea, add two full
table spoon of it to a boiling water and use it one full glass daily .
Gonorrhea:The fresh bark stem of sand paper tree should be boil. The patient will be drinking one full glass
a day, morning and evening for three weeks.
IGI OLOBOTUJE TABI LAPALAPA( PIG NUT TREE
WITH SCIENTIFIC NAME JATROPHA CURCAS)
This plant is also
very useful in treating a simple ailments like Bacteria infections,,epilepsy and convulsion,
fibroid etc. It contain the medicinal properties know as, Resin,Taniis,
Inulin, Curcin , Saponis,
HERBAL AND MEDICINAL USES
Bacteria infections: fresh leaves if
this plant should be obtain and squeeze with clean water, add a pinch of salt
to it. Then drink one glass of it, two times a day for a week.
The fresh juice or latex of this plant can also be apply on fresh wound as first aids to stop bleeding.
For Epilepsy
And Convulsion: The root
of pig nut and fresh tobacco leaves and
ginger and garlic should be boil together. The patient will be taking it one
glass two times a day. This same decoction can also help in fibroid cases.
IGI KASSU( CASHEW TREE WITH SIENTIFIC
NAME ANACARDIUM OCCIDENTALE)
Cashew
tree is one of the common plant use for simple ailment in Yoruba herbal
medicine, it is usually used in making herbal preparations that range from curing Malaria,
Fever, Diabetes etc. it
medicinal properties are Phenols, Tannis, Anacardic
acid
.
Herbal or medicinal uses
Malaria: The stem bark of cashew tree can be boil in clean water
for thirty minute. The patient will be drinking it one glass, two times a day.
Another method is to get the tender shoot or leaves
of cashew tree grind it with iru (locust beans) and fresh pepper cook with
fish. The person should eat the soup often.
Dysentery: The bark stem and leaves of cashew tree should be boil together
with clean water and the person will be taking the decoction one cup a day.
It is also believe that
if diabetic patient is taking the aforementioned decoction full glass three times
a day it will help.
IGI ASOFEYEJE (SWIZZLE STICK WITH
SIENTIFIC NAME RAULFIA VOMITORIA)
Swizzle
stick is also one of herbs commonly use to
cure common ailment like Insomnia, Impotence, Hypertension, Nervous Disorder,. It
contain the medicinal properties such as ;Rauwlfine, Reserpine,Serposterol, Saponin, etc.
HERBAL AND MEDICINAL USE
Insomnia : One of
the number one leading herbs for insomnia in yoruba herbal medicine is swizzle plant. The fresh root or bark
stem of this plant should be obtain and be boil with water . Person suffering from insomnia
should drink it one cup in the evening before bed time.
For nervous disorder patient, they should take
one glass of this decoction three times a day.
Taking one glass of this decoction a day can help people with
weak erection, it can also help hypertensive patient.
IGI IYEYE TABI OKIKAN( HOG LUM TREE WITH SCIENTIFIC NAME SPONDIAS MOMBIN)
It one of the leading plant that is use to take care of memory loss, cataract, fibroid and gonorrhea.
It contain the medicinal properties know as
Resin, Tannis, Alkaloid, Saponin.
Herbal AND MEDICINLA USES
Cataract: The fresh tender leave of this plant should be obtained,
wash it, with clean water. Use your hand to squeeze it to obtain it juice,
don’t add any water to it. Add one table spoon of fresh lime orange juice to two
table spoon of this decoction; apply a drop of it to the eyes two time a day. It
is instructive that it must always be prepare fresh.
Antibacterial; boil fresh leave of this plant in water. Drink
it one full glass three times a day to remove infections.
For fibroid: the immature green seed of this plant with
immature palm nut seed should be boil in
clean water together . Drink one glass of it two times a day for 40 days
OROGBO (BITTER KOLA WITH SCIENTIFIC NAME
GARCINAL KOLA)
Bitter kola is also one of the most commonly used herbs
in Yoruba herbal medicine to cure simple ailment like Jaundice, it serve as anti
–poison, improve male erection. It contain the medicinal properties known as
kolaviron,
flavounoid- Apigenin,Resin,Sponis,Taninis.
HERBAL AND MEDICINAL USES
Anti-poison:
Chewing moderate quantity of bitter kola can serve as antidote
for snake bite and food poison,
Weak erection: When a man is having weak erection if he can boil the
fresh root of bitter kola, ginger and garlic together. , allow it to cool and
settle .Drink one glass of the decoction three times a day
A blended
fresh bitter kola soak in water can be used to cure Jaundice. It will use by
taking one glass of it , three times a day
